●Born and raised in Hong Kong. Loves and devoted to music.
●1956 Accepted Christ as personal Savior. (intervention #01)
●1957 Played the piano and studied Music Theory.
●1959 Called to the ministry in Summer Camp, but avoided the actual commitment. Enjoy playing the trumpet, used it for evangelism. Played violin in La Salle College Orchestra.
●1964 Enrolled in Hong Kong Baptist College Majored in Social Work. Played the cello in the university orchestra.
●1965 Awarded the Licentiate degree (L. R. S. M.) of Royal Schools of Music, London, England.
●1966 Founded and directed the Hong Kong Baptist College Christian Choir till 1968 (earned recognition and given credit as a college choir class) (intervention #02)
●1967 Won Championship Award, Classical Division, Sing Tao Evening News All Hong Kong Amateur Singing Contest. Sent to a tour in Europe and represented World University Service in six international conferences in Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, France and England. (intervention #03)
●1968 Arrived in Los Angeles and began graduate studies in Music, majored in voice performance and choir directing at LA State. (intervention #04)
●1972 Called to Cumberland Presbyterian Chinese Church in San Francisco as music minister, responsible for five choirs and one string orchestra. (The requirement was that I found a paid position in San Francisco, preferably a college professor's.) The calling was confirmed by God's provision of a 3/5 load part-time instructor's position at City College of San Francisco. (CCSF) Held this position till 1989 when Joshua became tenure professor. ●1972 Began teaching as instructor of voice, choir and East Asian music in CCSF. Taught voice for four years at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary at Strawberry Point, Mill Valley.
●1973 Administrator of Asian Business Training Center of San Francisco State University. (three years, funded by Small Business Administration)
●1973 In December, directed the first Chinese Church Musical in America (Paul Johnson's "Celebration of Hope") with full orchestra, full staging and choreography. (intervention #06)
●1975 Said no to an offer to become tenure professor at CCSFbecause of the ministry call, but instead, while believing that all pulpit personnel should be pastors, or pastor at heart, enrolled in the Master of Divinity program at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. (intervention #07)
●1977 While serving as lay music minister at First Baptist Church of San Francisco, (Senior pastor: Rev. John Streeter.) Called to start Chinese Outreach of San Francisco.
●1980 Called as Associate Pastor of Worship at Park Presidio Bible Church, San Francisco. (PPBC - L. Richard Owen, Senior Pastor) Taught theology at International Bible Institute. (3 years, on Campus at PPBC)
●1984 Ordained into the ministry by Park Presidio Bible Church.
●1986 Called by Rev. David Eckman as Associate Pastor of Worship at Christian Fellowship Church, (CFC) Pleasant Hill. Served as board member and instructor of theology in Grace School of Theology and Ministry. (On campus at CFC) Taught church music at Christian Witness Theological Seminary (Dr. Lawrence Au, President)
●1989 Finally Accepted offer and became tenured professor of music at CCSF. (intervention #08)
●1991 Call by Pastor Don Shelley of Church of the Highlands as Associate Pastor of Worship.
●1992 Summer, called to teach Worship Leadership, solo singing and choir techniques in Xia Men, China. Continued support of worship ministries in China till the present.
●1992 Call by Pastor John Tsang of Overseas Theological Seminary as Adjunct Professor of Church Music. Served as needed for 14 years.
●1993 Directed and produced a video production of "The Promise" A Pageant on the life of Jesus Christ by Jan Dargatz and Gary Rhodes in Chinese, Broadcast in TV channels in the Bay Area as well as all over the US and abroad. (intervention #09)
●1994 Began Doctor of Ministry program at San Francisco Theological Seminary.
●1995 Summer, called to teach Worship Leadership, solo singing and choir techniques in Shenyang, Dalian, and Lianggedian, China
●2000 Devoted to ministering on campus at CCSF, developed Asian Music Club (AMC - oldest Student club at CCSF started by students of Joshua Law in the late eighties) into a large student club organizing three to four large concerts per year in addition of four vocal and Choral concerts.
●2002 Elected as Chairperson of Asian Studies Department (twenty faculty members)
●2003 Summer, Taught short course on Ethnomusicology at the Graduate Division of Taiwan National University. Produced and directed "God With Us" by Don Moen in Chinese in GaoHsiung, Taiwan. (intervention #10)
●2004 Summer, called to teach Worship Leadership, solo singing and choir techniques in Inner Mongolia, China.
●2004 Guided AMC to become World Music Club (WMC) Renamed City College Choir as City Oratorio and Orchestra and performed many major works such as Mendelssohn's "Elijah", Handel's "Messiah", J. S. Bach's "Christmas Oratorio", Haydn's "Creation" and similar major oratorio works by the masters.
●1998 to the present: Grace Chinese Bible Church of Sacramento, Sunday sermon, all day Worship/Music training, Saturdays and Sundays, every other month of each year.
●2009 Retired from CCSF. Joshua could have stayed for a few years to reap full benefit but the fact is that the Lord has prompted him to retire at a point in time while he is still healthy to devote to the ministry.
